How to Measure Your Daughter for Pyjamas

Always measure directly on the body, never over clothing. Five measurements matter for girls. Height: barefoot, standing straight, crown to heel. Chest: around the fullest part, tape flat under the arms, arms relaxed. Waist: just above the navel, snug but not tight. Hips: around the fullest part of the seat, tape horizontal. Inseam: crotch to ankle. Record everything in centimetres. Hips grow in importance from around age 8 to 10, once chest and hips stop tracking together.

Girls' Pyjama Size Chart by Age and Height

Toddler sizes 2T to 5T suit ages roughly 2 to 5, heights around 84 to 110 cm, with extra room through the seat and shorter sleeves. Numeric sizes 4 to 16 suit ages roughly 4 to 16, heights around 104 to 160 cm, with longer inseams and a defined waist. Hips are tracked as a measurement from size 8 onward. When chest and hips point to different sizes on this chart, size up to the larger for comfort and movement.

Toddler vs. Kids' Pyjama Sizing for Girls

T-sizes are built for toddlers: shorter inseams and sleeves, extra room through the seat and belly, no defined waist. Numeric sizes introduce longer proportions and waist shaping, tracking hips from size 8 onward. A girl measuring 99 to 106 cm may wear either 4T or size 4, depending on whether she still needs training-pant ease. Sleeves creeping above the wrist while the waist still fits signals numeric sizing is overdue. Sizing up one from her age is a useful baseline.

Understanding Canadian Girls' Pyjama Sizing Labels

Canadian girls' pyjamas use two parallel systems: toddler sizes 2T to 5T, and numeric sizes 4 through 16. The number on the tag is an age-based guide only, and a size 6 from one brand can differ by several centimetres from another. European sizing, marked in cm such as 92 or 98, refers directly to the child's height. Quebec parents often see both systems side by side. Brand cut also varies, so always check each product's own fit notes.

How Girls' Pyjamas Should Fit

Pyjamas should allow free movement in every direction, arms raised, legs bent, without pulling tight or riding up. Sleeves should reach the wrist with a little ease, and pant legs should reach the ankle without bunching. Two-piece sets are sized as a unit, so a chest-to-hip mismatch can create a fit conflict. When chest and hips fall in different sizes, prioritize the larger measurement. Snug-fit cotton follows the size chart closely, while relaxed or flannel styles carry more ease.

When to Size Up — Signs She Has Outgrown Her Pyjamas

Sleeves ending above the wrist and pant legs ending above the ankle are the earliest signals she's outgrown her pyjamas. A waistband pulled to its tightest setting, or leaving a red mark, tells the same story. Girls with early growth spurts, common between ages 8 and 12, can shift a full size every few months. A top lifting away from the waistband when arms are raised signals a length issue even when the chest fits. Size up when in doubt.
