Boys' Pyjama Size Guide

Our boys' pyjama size guide helps you find the right fit before you order, covering sizes from toddler 2T through size 16. JuniorKids has dressed Canadian children for over 30 years, and measuring first means fewer returns.

How to Measure Your Son for Pyjamas

Accurate sizing starts with a soft measuring tape, never a metal ruler. Four measurements matter. Height: barefoot, standing straight, crown to heel. Chest: around the fullest part, tape flat under the arms. Waist: just above the navel, snug but not tight. Inseam: crotch to ankle. Record everything in centimetres, since Canadian and European sizing both use cm. Treat these numbers as a starting point, not a ceiling.

Boys' Pyjama Size Chart by Age and Height

Toddler sizes 2T to 5T suit ages roughly 2 to 5, with extra room through the seat for diapers, covering heights around 86 to 110 cm. Numeric sizes 4 to 16 fit ages roughly 4 to 16, with longer sleeves and a slimmer torso, spanning heights around 99 to 162 cm. A 4T and a size 4 are not the same cut. Waist and height are the most reliable fit anchors. When your son sits between sizes, size up.

Toddler vs. Kids' Pyjama Sizing: Key Differences

The "T" in toddler sizes means exactly that: shorter inseams, a wider seat, and extra room through the belly for diapers. Once a boy is potty trained and his limbs have lengthened, usually around age 4 to 5, numeric sizes fit better. A child measuring 99 to 104 cm could suit either 4T or size 4, depending on whether he still needs diaper ease. Numeric sizes also correct the shorter sleeve and leg length built into T sizing.

Understanding Canadian Pyjama Sizing Labels

Canadian children's clothing uses two parallel systems: toddler sizes 2T to 5T and numeric sizes 4 through 16. The number on the tag is a guideline, not a promise of fit, and two brands labelled size 6 can differ by several centimetres. Imported garments sometimes use European sizing, marked directly in centimetres and corresponding to the child's height. Montreal and Laval parents often see both systems on the same rack, so cross-check this guide against each product's fit notes.

How Pyjama Fit Should Feel

A well-fitting pyjama lets your son raise his arms, bend his knees, and roll over without fabric riding up or pulling tight. Sleeves should reach the wrist without bunching, and pant legs should reach the ankle without dragging. Snug-fit styles, common in cotton jersey, sit close to the body and follow the size chart closely. Relaxed or loose-fit styles carry more ease, so sizing down a step sometimes suits better. Stretchy fabric offers more give than woven flannel.

When to Size Up — Signs Your Son Has Outgrown His Pyjamas

Sleeves and pant legs hitting mid-forearm or mid-calf, instead of wrist and ankle, are the clearest sign your son has outgrown his pyjamas. A waistband that leaves a red mark or is pulled to its tightest setting tells the same story. Pyjamas that ride up overnight or tops that untuck easily indicate a length problem, even when the chest fits. Boys often shift a full size during growth spurts around ages 4 to 5 and 9 to 12, so re-measure regularly.
